I had a total hip replacement on the fast track route. It was a daunting prospect to have an operation in a day. Prior to having the hip replacement I was in pain constantly with difficulty getting up from a sitting position and not sleeping. On the day of the operation I arrived at 7:30 and I was back on the ward by 12 noon. I went for a short walk with crutches three days after operation and can now walk 2-3 miles unaided 9 weeks later. Communication by Mr Jacobs. Orthopaedic Department and Pre-Op prior to operation was reassuring and informative.

I am 85yrs and had a hip replacement under Mr Jacob. Unfortunately I tripped and fell and broke my femur a week later. Mr Jacob was kind enough to review me and revise my hip. I feel so good. Carole Bennett

Mr Jacob, was helpful and explained the type of hip replacement best for me. My fast track hip joint replacement entailed a spinal/general anaesthetic and although worried before hand, I found the anaesthetic team very reassuring and explained everything they were doing (a little uncomfortable but not painful). The theatre team were amazing and put me at ease, do not remember anything after that. Waking up after surgery was great I fortunately had no after effects and my first feeling was that I had no pain even when the anaesthetic wore off. For the first time in several years I was sore but with no pain! My whole experience from start to finish has been brilliant. It has been a long journey from being first advised that I had osteoarthritis and having Bariatric surgery and losing 15st. To now having a new hip and on the path to a better and healthier life. Mr Jacobs, his team to hospital care and now physio has been amazing.

A very smooth procedure. Intake to the ward was smooth and slick. The operation was on time and went as planned. Well I guess it did, I was out of it. Recovery was as expected. A couple of appointments and physio were delayed but not by much. No problems.
